I am an international employee and didn’t get a W-2 (or 1042-S), why?

Non-Resident Aliens (NRA) will get a W-2 and/or a 1042-S depending on how taxes were withheld from their paychecks. Some NRAs will only receive a 1042-S if all income received during a tax year is exempt from federal tax withholding under a tax treaty exemption. Some will receive both a W-2 and a 1042-S if only a portion of income was exempt from federal tax withholding under a tax treaty. Specific questions on the form 1042-S should be directed to the Tax Compliance Office at 742-3211.
